Japandroids – Near To The Wild Heart Of Life

Canadian duo Japandroids are back with their third studio album.  I thought it might be difficult for them to reach the heights of their last album Celebration Rock, but they picked up right where they left off.  Brian King’s song writing is unique and captivating.  Similar to their previous albums Japandroids have applied the 8 song album approach claiming that this is “the standard template for a great rock n roll album: Raw Power by The Stooges, Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen, Marquee Moon by Television, IV by Led Zeppelin, Horses by Patti Smith, Paranoid by Black Sabbath, Remain In Light by Talking Heads, Master Of Puppets by Metallica, etc.”  Hard to argue with that logic!  I am going to make a bold prediction that this one will be in my top ten at the end of 2017 and Near To The Wild Heart Of Life will join Celebration Rock in my record collection.  Essential tracks include North South East West, Arc of Bar and the title track you can check out here.

Morgan Barrie – North

It’s been almost a year since local Indie musician Morgan X Barrie teased us with his CBC Searchlight music video entry called Zombies.  Well folks, the wait is almost over with the SOLD OUT album release party slated for March 24th at the legendary Heartwood Hall in Owen Sound, ON.  One of the many perks of “working” for Rrampt is that I get my hands on hot wax fresh off the press.  North has been in constant rotation at my house and it’s a truly stunning debut album.  You will come to appreciate his music even more when you learn that Morgan is playing everything you hear on the album, with the exception of background vocals on two tracks (shout out to Leslie Hopkins).  If you simply can’t wait to hear what this talented chap has to offer, might I suggest heading over to iTunes and picking up ‘Til the Motor Quits by Morgan’s side project called Sweet M (Morgan on all the instruments and his father Brian Barrie on vocals).  Or you can listen to my favourite track on the album over and over again until North comes out later in March, here is I Believe In You.
