Sunny Sunday Tours of Beautiful Joe Park

July 28 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

If it’s sunny (aka not raining) visit Beautiful Joe Park, in downtown Meaford and enjoy a 30 to 45-minute guided walking tour of this shady oasis beside the Bighead River.  Canada’s most famous dog is laid to rest here and his story was nearly lost – even though he was once known and loved around the world.  Learn about him, the person who made him so acclaimed through the book Beautiful Joe – the first Canadian novel to sell a million copies!  It was written back in 1893!  Knowledgeable volunteers from the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society will talk about the author, the story and explain how the park came to be and the journey to create what you see today.  Lots of entertaining anecdotes will illustrate the animal / human bond – the foundation of this historic place.

The walking trail is level and hard-packed and several benches are positioned throughout the park should you need a rest. A pavilion with running water, a port-a-potty and picnic tables are available in the park May to October.  On leash pets are welcome.

The driveway to the park has a short, sloped entrance.  Oversized vehicles are recommended to park around the corner in the parkland across the river.

Private tours can be arranged at other times / dates for groups up to 40 people by contacting admin@beautifuljoe.org.

Tours are free, but donations are gratefully accepted.  Beautiful Joe Heritage Society is a registered charity.
