When Nelson approached me with the idea of doing a blues show, I was interested but nervous. I was interested because I knew that it would be just the thing to thrust me into a serious blues phase. I was nervous because I didn’t know if there was a demand for it in the area.
Well, I was right that it would launch me into my ‘blues phase’. I’m currently listening to BB King as I write this. I’ll spin Harrison Kennedy’s This Is Here after that. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to get serious about this feel good, soulful music.
But I was wrong to be nervous. This community embraced a blues show with overwhelming support. Harrison Kennedy delivered two incredible sets spanning his nine album career, and even dipped into his Chairmen of the Board catalogue. I think it’s safe to say he made some fans on Saturday night. And I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be doing more kinds of events like this one.
And the whisky was a nice touch, because, well who doesn’t love to start the night sipping on an award winning Canadian blend from a local distillery.
Here’s a few pictures from our photographer, Zak Erb, from Saturday’s event. Thanks to all who were in attendance and to our stellar sponsors, Collingwood Whisky, Bumstead Insurance and Financial, Advantage Royal Group, Don Wilkinson’s Massage Therapy Centre, Sunrise Records, and The Bowling Alley.
